This Sunday we hiked up to Rattlesnake ledge. It was a gorgeous day out. Kayla amused the many hikers coming down the trail, as she was babbling and bffting up a storm. She really seems to enjoy going on walks and being outside, especially when facing front in the bjorn. Last weekend we hiked Little Si. That was quite the adventure as I ended up getting a few hornet stings. Those things hurt!
The fall colors are really starting to come out. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost fall already. What an amazing summer it’s been. Hazy I will admit, but amazing nonetheless.
Speaking of the amazing one herself, Kayla turned 5 months old on Friday.
Kayla is now a pro at rolling over from back to front. All that practice paid off. She seems to have forgotten how to get back, but I’m sure that’ll come in time. She is really able to figure out how to roll a certain way to get a toy that is out of her reach. She is usually persistant and usually prevails. That is of course as long as it’s not completely out of her range.
After weeks of Kayla waking frequently throughout the night, she finally did some serious sleeping. Last wednesday she pulled a 9 hour stretch, a quick feeding, back in bed still awake, and woke up 4 hours after that. It did get slightly less each night after that,(seems like a hour less in between wakings) but I’ll take those four nights of bliss. What was different you ask? Well for one, her dad is putting her to sleep. I feed her and say goodnight and then Tim does the rest. Also that first night I found her on her stomach, and that must have been a part of the comfort sleep. We also tried to have the heat on a bit more in case all her moving around was due to the cold. Anyhow, Oma really wanted me to mention the sleep thing, so I did. At least I know the little one has it in her when she is ready.

The above are a couple cute photos from our mommies/babies day. In the top pic Kayla is with Uli, and in the bottom is her friend Meg.

Well, we survived the week. Tim made it home sometime after midnight last night. It feels nice to have the family together and Kayla seems to be enjoying Tim being home again.
We had a busy week, getting out for walks every day and meeting with friends for coffee or dinner. Joe and Korey were a super help on Thursday giving me some respite and making some yummy dinner. The weather has taken a turn towards winter, so we have walked in the rain some. Kayla has this warm fleecy thing for her stroller, but still perfers the bjorn at times. Rain or not, she’s happy being worn.
Kayla has been working on rolling over to her tummy this week. One day she did it repeatedly. She hasn’t figured out how to get her arm out of the way to complete the roll. I haven’t seen her repeatedly doing something like this before. She is also staying in a sitting position longer than before. She of course isn’t able to sit on her own for more than a second or two, but if she has a toy to hold onto to keep her balanced it can be slightly longer. She also likes to put her hands on mine for clapping games and seems to enjoy clapping with me during “if you’re happy…”.

So, this is Kayla yesterday before we went out to Vashon. We had another fun day with her. She started a new thing where she makes her sad-sour-pouty-face with her sad sound to let us know when she is unhappy. It’s not the full on cry that can start with that. I imagine she is either testing out yet another sound or going for the cause and effect learning with that one. It is ridicuously cute and does the trick for getting us (well at least me) to respond. I like that she is refining her calls for attention or help. There is still a large amount of guesswork in terms of what she needs, but it all seems easier for the most part now.
Tim left this morning for a week long business trip. We’ll see how cute I think all these new sounds are by the end of the week :-)

I just love this girl. She brings so much joy to my life. Kayla is a very happy girl these days. Screaming for joy and singing this “scream” to anyone who will listen. She still giggles alot and manages to share her smile with strangers. Kayla still has her more serious side as well where she just takes everything in and watches. She also has started playing peek a boo on her own. Very cute.
We had a good though rather uneventful labor day weekend. On Friday we went to Golden Gardens for Trish’s birthday celebration. I believe it was Kayla’s first beach bonfire. We kept Kayla up quite a bit past her bedtime as I got to do some long overdue drumming. The rest of the weekend was spent mostly doing home projects. We had a leaky faucet in the basement that needed attention, and we finally got the sanding done of our outside table.
On Tuesday Kayla and I went to the zoo. She was shouting for joy all over the place, though I think the trees and plants may have been more interesting than the animals. She did have a butterfly land on her hat in the butterfly dome.
We are back to our weekly goings on, walking with friends or hanging out with the mommies. Good stuff. We even walked in the rain for the first time today. Maybe I shouldn’t admit that I welcomed it somewhat. But, I did. :-)

Kayla and I have been meeting with some other moms and their cute babies. It is so fun to watch the babies interact, or not interact, and great to have the time to get to know the moms better. The support is super valuable. Last week we had a picnic at Discovery Park.
