Kayla’s kindergarten class visits the Hearthstone retirement community center every other week. They each have a “grandpal” that they do activities with. This week was manicure week. It was very cute. The kids had been practicing in class all week and managed to do quite a good job painting the grandpals nails. Some of the grandpals returned the manicure as you can see in the photo where Lillian is painting Kayla’s nails.
Another exciting part of this particular visit, is that Kayla was chosen to read the story this time. She had practiced reading the book many times and did a great job! The book chosen was a sweet one too called “My mother’s voice”.
After the hearthstone visit, Kayla’s class had a visit from the tooth fairies. There were 4 of them, the molar fairy, incisor fairy, baby tooth fairy and some other one. Each child was given their own little tooth fairy pillow to have at home. Kayla has a wiggly tooth and was pretty excited to hear all the fairies had to say.

We had a great time visiting at Nana and Grandpa Wayne’s house. We finally got to meet Ava and Olivia! They were pretty darn sweet. Kayla and Julia had a turn or two holding them as well.
Here’s proud papa Kelly with little Olivia.
After the Easter meal and egg hunt, there was a birthday celebration for Miss Kayla. She sure had the extendo birthday celebrating with hers falling on Easter weekend this year. She loved all her presents and it was hard to get her ready for school on Monday because she wanted to try everything out. Thanks all for a fun weekend.

Our little Kayla has turned 6 years old. It’s hard to believe but it’s true. She has some mixed feelings about it the night before, but I think most of them were excited feelings. She had a small party the evening before her actual birthday. Two friends (and two little sisters) over for t-shirt painting, nail painting, pizza making and fun.
On Saturday we had our annual street easter egg hunt. I think the girls got a record number of eggs this year. Kayla I think has more candy than from Halloween. After the hunt we drove down to Longview to begin the Easter celebrating. We first visiting with Grandpa Jim at the Lake Sacajawea park since it was 70 degrees, sunny and the only nice day we’ve had in a long time.

A few of Julia’s preschool mates met at Seattle Center for some adventuring. Somehow we all ended up on the monorail for the short ride, but the kids loved it. They all got to sit right up front and check out the scene.

We had such a good time at this park last year that we decided to go again. Our cabin’s firepit/picinic area was quite private this time. It was quite cold but at least it didn’t rain until the last night while we were sleeping. We had some lovely hikes in the woods, including one where the girls searched for nature treasures that they found on the hike.
One of our walks led us down to the beach. It was pretty but not very warm. We found a natural see-saw made from driftwood, found the perfect pebbles and had a bit of fun.
I was fascinated by this tree at the top of the cliff. It’s roots were barely hanging on with all the erosion. I wonder if it will still be there next year, or if it will have made it’s plunge to the join the beach.
On our way home from camping we decided to swing north to take a look at the tulip fields. It was again cold and we didn’t feel like the crowds at the tulips, but we did find this lovely daffodil field in full bloom. Too bad we couldn’t all just go running through it. It sure was yellow.

Kayla has been asking me for a nightgown forever. I always had it in the back of my mind that I would sew one. Well, we were at a fabric store the other day for some other item and we randomly decided to get a pattern and some material. Sewing is not as easy as I remember and there were certainly some steps that I missed I think, but for now the gowns came out pretty cute. Hopefully they’ll make it through a washing okay! Julia claims she is “in love with hers” and that makes all the effort worthwhile.
