you belong among the wildflowers

30 March 2006

I might get a little misty eyed when my I hear that song and think of Kayla. But, you know, she had her first crawl in the daisy filled grass today and looked pretty darn happy.

I included a photo of Aiden because he is just so darn cute with that little tounge sticking out.

Happy 35th birthday to Timmy as well. He is a solid mid-thirties now. Whew.

aarrrgh

Ahoy matey. The Taft family pirates are on the loose again. Last seen at Deacon’s 3 year birthday party. Happy birthday Deacon!

up and up and up

22 March 2006

Kayla learned how to climb the stairs. She does it pretty quickly too. While Tim was away I went out and bought some safety gates and had him install them first thing when he got back. We still let her climb the stairs for fun though she has so far shown no interest in learning how to go down.

weekly happenings

20 March 2006

We did some visiting this weekend. We had brunch at Joe and Korey’s and got to see little Beni. We also went over to Vahson and let Kayla and Ava play some. It’s too bad they live that ferry ride away. The kids are so cute together.

Monday night we started a sign language class at our friend Jenni’s house. We hope to learn more signs to better communicate with Kayla. She really is picking it up. Her latest sign is “fish”. She still has a lot of signs that we really have no idea what she means, but we’re trying.

getting solid

16 March 2006

Guess who stood all by herself today? That’s right, Kayla. She was hugging me and let go and stood for quite some time. She was looking at me in total suprise and I’m sure that I mirrored that suprise right back. She knew she was doing something different and cool. Our exchange was pretty special. She stood for what seemed like 5 seconds. Wow.

Since I wasn’t expecting her to stand I didn’t get it captured on film. Instead there are two other cute photos of her for Kayla viewing pleasure.

High Camp

12 March 2006

We went up to Scottish lakes this weekend for some backcountry adventuring. It dumped about 2 feet of snow 2 days before we went up there and we couldn’t really have asked for more ideal conditions. That left plenty of untracked powder for all. We were there with a group of friends who do this yearly. The ride up to high camp involves a snowmobile ride, and Kayla did great on the way up and down. She also handled the cabin and all the blockades away from the wood stove fairly well. She really started pulling herself up on everything this weekend. Kayla enjoyed playing with her friends and trying to follow Deacon up the steep spiral stairs. Of course that didn’t work out. She has managed to get up real low steps, but nothing more yet. Phew. She also learned the new sounds ma ma ma ma and practiced yelling it all the way on the ride there. She has really started saying da da and signing “daddy” at the same time, so we do think she gets the distinction. Smart one. Sorry, the camera didn’t come in time for the trip. If my friends send any good photos I’ll add one.

Oma and opa visit

8 March 2006

Oma and Opa came to town again and had some fun with little miss Kayla. The weather was beautiful one day, cold and rainy most of the rest. We did walk down to the Greenlake playground where everyone had a good time. Kayla went down the slide for the first time and also got her first merry -go-round ride. I tend to get ill just watching those, so she might have to wait until they visit again.

We also walked around the arboretum. I was hoping more of the cherry blossoms would be in bloom, but there were a few. Kayla had fun blowing kisses at us, eating her dad’s nose and being bounced in the air while walking. She had lots of giggles that day.

One cold day we went to the science center. Kayla played in the toddler area and then we all went to the butterfly room. That was pretty fun. There were these somewhat large blue butterflies fluttering all around. One of them took a ride on Opa’s head for most of the time he was in there. The butterfly has its wings folded up so you can’t see the blue.

Kayla also started rolling the ball back to you sometimes, is attempting to put things back into or on containers, and continues to like the drum and music.
