Our one and only camping trip this year was to Newhalem campground. It was a bit of a drive out on Highway 20. Tim took Friday off as we were trying to get one of the non-reservable campsites. We arrived around 1pm and by 4pm the last few sites were all full. It was a nice campground. Fun for the girls to ride their bikes around the loop. There were lots of trails from the campground and a river to hang out by.
Julia was our map holder and trail finder one day. We did more “hiking” than she would have liked but she was a sport for the most part. Friday night we walked into Newhalem town and to the Ladder Falls. At night the falls are illuminated which was pretty beautiful to see. We then hiked back to the campground with our flashlights in the pitch dark. Both nights were had thunder and rain. The second night we saw a most brilliant lightning display. Bolts of lightening shooting sideways and every direction. Amazing.
