We decided to go camping for fathers day to Scenic beach state park over near Bremerton. We headed to the ferry after Tim got off work and had a picnic dinner on board. The girls loved the ferry. They loved running outside into the wind and dancing, laughing and twirling. I must say it really beats driving in the car. The drive to the park wasn’t too far from the ferry dock.
It was somewhat low tide when we went to the beach, and the girls (and Tim) had a great time looking under rocks for crabs. There were many of them. We saw a giant sea star perched on a rock too. The beach was mostly an oyster beach, so it was a good low tide hunting for things beach.
We had a chance to do a little “hiking” and both girls had fun finding hiking sticks and walking around the campground and to the beach. Julia still is too young to walk far, but Kayla was doing really great.
There was a little playground near the beach. Both girls are becoming quite the climbers. It is really interesting to see how fearless Julia is. She is climbing things already that are a bit frightening to me. I’m not sure if it’s the younger following the older one thing or if she is just more coordinated than most.
The girls often have fun together. Here they were being pretty cute in the tent after a good nap. The sleeping at night went pretty horribly, but we had so much fun during the day that it didn’t matter too much. It was so great to see Kayla so excited about camping and the whole trip, and to let her wander off a little bit more than usual to the water spicket, for instance. She really enjoyed that freedom.
