I took Kayla to the pool for the first time this week. She seemed to love it! It was very cute. Our neighbor has been going with her 9 week old and convinced me to go with her. I bounced with Kayla which made her giggle. When I held her away from my body (still in an upright position), she kicked her legs and splashed a bit with her hands. I also laid her on her back to float, kind of like we do in the tub. At first she was somewhat apprehensive, but then decided it must have felt safe enough, because she bent her legs and happily began sucking on her toes. It was very funny and cute. I also got up the courage to put her face in the water. I was told that babies have a reflex up until 12 months (I think) where if you blow into their mouth they will take in a breath, and then you can get their face in the water. April tried it with Holt first, and then I later gave it a go with Kayla. Seemed to work just fine. I would like to try and get her to the pool somewhat regularly. She was in a really good mood for several hours afterwards.
I don’t have any pictures of the swim, but here is one of her with great grandma Delores from her and Wayne’s visit last weekend.
Kayla is seen here with a sippy cup. We gave it to her because she wants everything “adult”. She enjoyed sucking on each part of it, even though she wasn’t drinking out of it. Soon my child, soon.
One other thing we noticed this week, was Kayla propelling herself forward a bit. She seemed to accomplish this by rotating one hip and kind of scooching forward. I haven’t seen much more of that yet, but yet another feat for her to work on.
