New height and weight

28 June 2005

Kayla weighed in at 10 pounds 8 ounces today, and her length was measured at 22 1/2 inches.

Today Kayla and I went to see “Bewitched”. A couple of the movie theatres hold a special mom and baby showing once per week. There were several moms there and a few dads as well. It was nice to be able to go see a movie and not worry about the baby crying or being fussy. There was lots of that happening. Not so much that it ruined the movie, it was just accepted.

Weekend fun

26 June 2005

This weekend was somewhat relaxing. On Saturday we walked around Greenlake. Yes, we do that a lot, I’m sure one day I will be sick of it, but for now it suffices. That night we went to celebrate Chris’s birthday at Thaiku. On Sunday we took turns hanging out with Kayla and each plowed through some much needed cleaning. The kitchen got done, the floors in the house were swept and mopped, and the lawn was mowed and wacked. We then took the ferry over to Vashon and had a BBQ at Ezra’s house. Ava came with her folks and she and Kayla reconnected. it was after all three weeks ago that they last saw each other.

So, we really wanted to post some of these pictures, but as you can see there are some red eye issues. Well, being the very clever photo editing masta that I am, I confidently set out to eliminate the red eye. Well, that proved beyond my ability, but we did come up with a covienient excuse for the red eyes by providing some dreadlocks and liberty spikes. Yes, you should all be impressed.

Oh, I also thought I would include a picture of Robin. I thought about giving her an exciting hair cut too, but decided against it.

Raspberries

23 June 2005

Just look at that crop of raspberries! Who knew we would have such an abundance this year :-). I just love to eat one or two berries a day. It’s a nice treat at this time of the year. We’ve had a handful of blueberries and strawberries too. I’m hoping the raspberries have a second crop later this season. These berries are growing on last years vine, the new shoots have not begun producing yet.

So, you are not yet impressed…? Just take a closer look at this temptation…

Father's day weekend

19 June 2005

SATURDAY

Today we hosted an informal BBQ. It was nice enough to be out in the backyard without freezing for most of the time. I’d say about 15 people came by at different times. It was nice to visit. Tim even laid Kayla down to sleep for a little while. It felt so grownup to have our daughter laying down in her bed while we hung out with the adults in the backyard. Can’t really say why… She only slept for about 15 minutes, but hey, she’s only 8 weeks old. We supplied a couple of Margarita buckets, of which I think only half of one was finished off. We’ll have to have some folks over for margaritas this week or next weekend to see if we can’t finish them off. We must be getting old or something. Actually, most people were drinking beer and there were three pregnant women here. So, it must not be the getting old thing. :-)

SUNDAY

These were taken Father’s day morning. Kayla was dressed up as a duck for the occasion. Tim’s first father’s day. It was a beautiful sunny day, so we decided to go for a hike. We were on the road around 2pm, which seems to be the usual get going time. It was also pretty windy, so we drove out to Issaquah to hike up to Poo Poo point to watch the paragliders and hang gliders. There were quite a few of them flying, and a whole bunch waiting to take off. I don’t know if they limit the numbers in the air, or if it just takes a while for each person to get set up and take off. This was Kayla’s first hike and though we saw several babies on the way up and down, she was by far the youngest. We got lots of comments such as “you’re brave” and “you’re taking her out early”. Not sure what they meant exactly. Kayla’s behavior at this point isn’t too much different whether at home or out. We varied our usual route to Poo Poo point and hiked from the landing zone rather than the high school. It’s more crowded that route, but a shorter more direct hike there.

You can tell from my great hair style how windy it was up there. With no wind however, there will be no flying. Notice the man falling from the sky in the right corner of the picture. His wing almost made it in the picture.

Be sure to click on this photo. In its larger image you can see several gliders in the air.

Portland

11 June 2005

We attempted our first road trip this weekend. Our destination was Portland for Sarah’s graduation party. We made it there and back and even managed to have some fun along the way. Saturday actually went well. Kayla slept in the car most of the way. Tim sat in back with her for some of the time that she was awake, talking to her and reading books to her. We had a few feeding stops along the road, stopped in Vancouver for dinner, and made it to the party around 8pm. Kayla was somewhat fussy when we got to the party, which held up the “pass baby around” line. It was fun to see the family and as it turns out, suprise everyone that we were coming. Sunday’s trip home was a bit more wearing. Kayla was awake and wanted to stop to eat at virtually every exit. We had plans to stop in Olympia, and did finally make it there about 6pm? We left Portland around 2. We walked in the woods at Priest Point state park. I think we finally made it home after 9pm.

This photo was taken before leaving for Portland. I forgot to add that while checking into the motel, Kayla, while frantically waving her hands, stopped suddenly and noticed her finger. She looked at it for a brief moment and then carried on.

daytime or nighttime?

10 June 2005

We had a first yesterday. Kayla was awake for most of the day. She really didn’t nap at all. Then guess what happened…? She slept from about 8pm to 12:30am or so. Yes, image that. Of course she has her mom so well trained to stay up until 1am that I couldn’t sleep. So, my golden opportunity was thwarted. Miss Kayla however even woke up giggling at her 1am feeding.

Will history repeat itself? We’ll have to wait and see. Kayla has been awake again most of today. It would be better if she napped some as she does get overtired, but that’s up to her.

progress

6 June 2005

Kayla is doing more than just sleeping these days. She is awake more often (as you can see in the picture), and takes great joy in both of her mobiles. She can be heard giggling at them or conversing with them. We are certainly having more conversations as well. These talks are super endearing and have caused me to fall further in love with her. She has also started grabbing things. My hair is a favorite for sure. Perhaps she is practicing pulling out my hair for a future hair styling career.

Ava visits

4 June 2005

So who’s having more fun here, the dads or the babies? I’d say the babies for sure. Look how they are interacting. I mean, they are almost looking at each other…

Sonom, Marla, Ezra and Ava made the trek from Vashon to come for a BBQ. Ava is almost a full week older than Kayla. We got a sneak preview at what the next few days had in store for us.

The rest of our weekend wasn’t too exciting. At least I don’t think it was. Truthfully I really can’t recall what else we did. Scary how bad my memory is on such limited amounts of sleep. We did watch “Shaun of the dead” on Friday night. Watching a movie in segments is never as good, but we still enjoyed it. Good spoof on zombie movies.

Thursday night was the reunion for our childbirth class. It was good to see all the other little babies about the same age as Kayla, and to hear that the other parents were experiencing the same things.
