The seattle libraries offer free summer programs. This was the first year we hit one meant for “older” kids. The girls were teamed up with another girl and each team needed to design and build a catapult out of pencils, rubber bands, cups, rulers and string. I think the three had fun building it.
After the design and building was finished, they were able to test out their design by launching a ping pong ball. Their team name was “Soup”. Soup tested and modified their design a few times and were able to launch it further each time. Pretty cool.

The first week of summer we had a slow start. Kayla had hurt her foot and so we stayed closed to home and had lots of her friends over. When we were finally ready to venture out the girls chose to go to a pool. We hit one of their favorites and they had a blast. It’s fun to see them loving the water.

Over the weekend we made the trek down to Portland. On the way we stopped in Longview for a visit. Friday night Tim and I snuck away for a date night and checked out one of the McMenamins properties.
On Saturday Kelly, Jennifer and the girls came over to Susie’s and we all hung out. My girls just can’t get enough of these two young ones. They have so much fun with them. I was able to take a walk to the Portland Saturday Market which was quite fun. Lots of folks playing music, sunshine, fun art things to look at.
The reason for the trek down was for Tiffany and Scott’s engagement party. It was a lovely evening and party. There were lots of fun lawn games. Julia wanted to try out badminton, we played corn hole and of course lots of dancing. Ava and Olivia especially seem to love the dancing and torn up the dance floor.

It had been many years since we attended a concert at the zoo but it was time to try again. Some of my favorite musicians were playing. The girls and I headed there after school to get our things in line. We were able to be right up next to the stage. Sunshine, picnic dinner, great music and the kids were free!. I might have to do this again.

Father’s Day weekend started out with a low tide adventure at Discovery Park. There were no starfish to be found to my dismay, but we saw crabs, sea anemones, gooey duck clams spouting water, and more fun sea life. The girls found a driftwood shelter that they played in for a while. On father’s day itself we did a bike/walk around Seward Park, sushi and a movie.

The last night of girl scouts includes a bridging ceremony where the girls moving up to the next level “bridge”. The evening started out as all good girl scout meetings do, with lots of singing.
Julia this year bridged from being a Daisy and is now a Brownie.
Kayla is now a Junior.
After bridging each girl is welcomed into the troop by the rest of the girls in that age group. You can see from Kayla’s vest that they earn lots of badges in this troop.
