The return to Hope Lodge

27 January 2014

January is Hope Lodge time. This year the snow was a bit icy at first. As we had been skiing in the ice for ski lessons Julia and I decided not to ski the first day. We took a little snowshoe/sledding/eating snow adventure down the road. Usually the road is too flat for sledding but since the snow was very packed down and slick we had some wild, bumpy rides down the road. There was snow soft snow on the sides that Julia found to munch on.

Our icy troubles didn’t last the whole week. You can see from the photo that we had a night of snowfall that led to some very fun skiing, though the snow was heavy and hard to turn in. It was fun to have more of a pack to ski in this year. Kids and adults all on skis finally.

These 4 girls have all been coming to Hope Lodge together for many years now. It has been fun watching them grow up here. This photo was one I was trying to recreate with them at the age they are. The next photo was from 2009/

They were all so little here. This wasn’t even the first year they had been here. Maybe one year before at least.

J's bday

Julia turned 7 this year. She is not longer a “little kid” now. It’s pretty amazing. She wanted a ladybug cake for her birthday this year. One she found in an old cake recipe book. We did the best we could. Julia and Kayla decorated the ladybug and I think it looked pretty good. (It looked better than it tasted unfortunately).

Julia had a low key birthday this year. In lieu of a party she took one friend to one of her favorite places- I-Fly. Julia, as usual, loved it. Her friend had a bit of a death grip on the instructor the whole time, but I think she still liked it. After the flying they came home, ate some ladybug cake and played a bit.
