get away fun

28 July 2013

We all headed to the cabin for another weekend up there. The girls and I headed up early on Friday so we could enjoy the river as it was a hot day. We had two inner tubes that we took turns floating on. The only trouble was the water being so shallow, it was easy to bang your knees on the rocks as Julia and I did. She will tell you though that “we didn’t even need an ice pack as the water was so cold.”

Julia had fun on the river but also had a great time in her inner tube off the river as well. Both girls slept on them one night and there was lots of other tube activites throughout the day. Unfortunately Julia’s tube did not survive the weekend. I think jumping on it in a gravel yard might have had something to do with it.

Some friends joined us on Saturday for a day of hanging out and a hike. These girls all get along really well as they are part of our Hope Lodge trips every year. The hike was to Dorothy Lake and it was great. There were so many huckleberries to pick on the way that is was slow going, but whatever works to get them up the trail. At the lake the kids had a blast climbing all over the log jams and wading in the water.

Vicky joined us for the last night and after we were all treated to Kayla’s restaurant for dinner, they hunkered down for some book reading time in bed. The girls are loving having their granny here.

Nisqually Wildlife Preserve

13 July 2013

Vicky arrived in town and we all headed down to Longview to celebrate Kelly’s 50th birthday. On the way we took a stop at Nisqually Wildlife Preserve and took a short hike around there. It was a hot day but we managed. The preserve is huge and seems like a fun place to visit another time to check out more of the park.

backpacking

6 July 2013

Tim took Kayla for her first backpacking adventure. They went to Trout Lake off Highway 2. They had a great time. I can’t tell you much about it as I wasn’t there, but I’m sure Kayla will love to tell anyone that asks all about it.

4th parties

4 July 2013

We were party animals for the 4th of July this year. A good friend turned 40 on the 4th and had a lovely bbq at Richmond Beach. Her friend had many activities set up and one of them was these fun bubble makers. Once we all figured out how to make bubbles it kept the girls busy for quite some time.
Our second party was at some friends whose home overlooks lake union. The perfect place to see the fireworks. We hadn’t stayed for the show before but this year we did. It was the first professional fireworks show my girls had seen. We also had a great view of a large fire that had started in a boat storage yard. We were glad to hear it wasn’t someone’s home.
