The girls and I headed to our cabin for a few nights the first week of summer. I was a bit under the weather but we managed to fit in a hike to Bridal Veil Falls. The falls were quite strong and wet. It was hard to take a photo really, or look at the falls much from right next to them. The girls were solid hikers even with my extra 1/2 mile accidental detour on the wrong trail. There were salmon berries to pick along the way and the girls earned some ice cream at the end.

Tim’s good friend Jason was married the weekend after school got out. Tim was best man, girls were flower girls. They all did great and had a fun time. The girls even managed to stay “orderly” for nearly 3 hours before the wedding as well.

The girls school is pretty close to green Lake and there is a favorite frozen yogurt place there. Many headed down there on the last day to enjoy a frozen treat in the sunshine. The kids had their field day today and it was a beautiful sunny day. Great way to celebrate the start of summer vacation!

Julia’s year of Kindergarten has come to a close. I think she really enjoyed it and loved school. She made friends easily and seemed to have a really good group of kids in her grade.
Kindergarten kids at her school have a little moving up ceremony. After jumping through the hula hoop, they are now officially a first grader.
Here is Julia with her teacher. Both of my girls had Mr. Hansen as a Kindergarten teacher, and we feel so thankful that they had the chance to be in his class. They loved his humor and came away loving reading, knowing how to write (sort of) and loving school.

This mother’s day I finally got Tim to help me build a picnic table for our cabin. It was something I had wanted to do for some time, but really needed a bit of help (okay a lot of help) understanding what the plans said, learning how to use the power tools and for some muscle work. Chiseling out the leg notches for instance.
My little helpers were all decked out (thanks to our neighbor) and ready for helping. They lasted about 5 minutes. What interested them more was saving all the bits of wood and gluing them together into different creations.
We used pine wood rather than cedar. Hopefully we won’t regret that in a few years. You can see in this picture the table legs needed a bit of help to keep it from tipping. (Sawing things evenly is not so easy).
After I stained the table (yes, it is bright orange, but so what!) Tim so kindly brought it up to the cabin for us. He took a photo of it in it’s new home. Looks pretty good I think. Careful on the benches as they are a bit rocky, but as far as you know it’s the uneven ground, not the bench!
