rainier getaway

22 August 2010

My parents had the girls over so Tim and I could get away for an anniversary weekend celebration. We went to Mt Rainier and had a great time. I forgot how beautiful that park is, even on a cloudy day. The first day we did a 12.5 mile hike or so up to what was meant to have beautiful views. You can see that in the photo huh? It was so cloudy at first we saw nothing.

Then, just when we almost gave up hope, look who comes out just a little bit. We were just sitting down looking out into the void and just happened to be facing the right direction for this brief viewing.

After another round of cloudy the mountain finally revealed herself quite a lot. It was beautiful and amazing and other mountain peaks showed themselves briefly too until all was once again swallowed up by the sea of clouds.

We had quite the adventure hike as you can see in the picture. Logs to cross, rock walls to scale, raging rivers to cross. Well, okay, not really any of that. I just couldn’t resist walking out to the end of this super tall tree that had fallen. I love the big trees and was so glad to be around them again (the standing ones mostly).

chelan meets the H/M/T clans

I know our 4 had a great time in Chelan. Lots of time outside in the sun, games of Catan, hanging out, going on a hike and other adventures. We did a bit of fruit picking while there. One day was blueberries, strawberries and a few raspberries. The other time was a hay ride up to a peach orchard for some peaches.

The cousins all seemed to enjoy each others company and played quite a few games of Uno together. I love Ryan’s face in this funny face photo.

We had a fun day out on the lake taking turns swimming, tubing, skiing (Owen was up and riding his first time!) and knee boarding. Well, Angela was the only one that tried the knee thing. Looks like she is having fun…?

The last day there we went to a water slide park. It amazed me how it was fun for all of us that went. There were small water slides for the little ones, and faster and tube ones for the rest of us. I really enjoyed being able to go on the tube ride with Kayla. Who knew we could have so much fun hooting and hollering together.

The girls cousins Owen and Ryan came to visit and stay with Oma and Opa for a week. We joined them for some of their adventures. Here we are at the Pikes place market for a very original photo I’m sure. Other adventures included beach combing, a ferry ride to Bainbridge island, huckleberry picking and games at our street block party. It was really fun to see them again.
