The girls and I headed out to Florida to visit Oma and Opa and to celebrate Opa’s birthday with him. The trip started out well enough- got up at 4am to get to the airport, only to find out the plane was very delayed. After changing the flight to fly to Tampa instead of Ft. Myers, we only had to wait 7 hours in Seatac airport. Thank goodness for this super dirty play area that kept the kids entertained. That and the automatic walking path things. Phew. The girls were troopers.
It was super hot while we were there, but the girls loved spending time in the pool. Opa and Oma helped to teach the girls to get a bit more comfortable in the water. Opa took each girl out in the dinghy and Kayla actually drove the boat all by herself.
We also went to the local hotel rooftop bar to watch the shuttle launch. We never did quite get to see it through the clouds, but the drinks were refreshing. During our time there we also hit a couple of beaches, went out on the sailboat, celebrated Opa’s birthday and did I mention go into the pool?
Another highlight was the Babcock ranch tour. It was on a working cattle ranch, and the open bus tour drove us through the grounds. We saw many animals, deer, baby alligators, big alligators, birds, wild pigs (which Kayla spotted) cougars (I think) and more I’m sure. As a special treat we all got to touch a baby alligator and the girls each were allowed to hold it! Brave girls. Good time all around. Bit of a struggle again with delays and such getting home, but we made it.
