We’ve had a fun summer. Vicky, Lila and Zayden came for a visit. Somehow we didn’t get any pictures except for this one. Hopefully it is not telling of years to come. They do make pretty cute graffiti artists though…

more camping

5 July 2009

For the 4th of July weekend we tried a new campground. It was chosen by default as it actually had spots left. Turns out it was a bit of a gem. Very beautiful area near us. This pic was taken near some walk up sites that were actually closed due to a past rock slide. They opened one site as the campground had filled up and this was the view from the hill. (Our camera batteries were dead, so excuse the poor quality phone camera pictures.)

We had room for Kayla’s balance bike and she had a good time riding around. She is getting pretty good on that thing. When she wasn’t biking, or berry picking, the girls were scouting for beads. Turns out someone must have broken their necklace or something there another time, and there were beads hidden all around the campsite for them to find.

We took a few hikes while there. The girls did soooo well. The trails were pretty flat, but they walked pretty far considering we never really do this. There were many many many huckleberry and salmon berries to be picked, so we had somewhat slow progress on our trails.

The hike we did the second day was just gorgeous. For the first mile it followed the river with Mt. Garfield and other unidentified mountains all around. The woods were pretty and it was so fun that all 4 of us were enjoying the trail. (Don’t be fooled, the girls were carried a fair amount, but they are pretty little still.)

It was rather hot when we were there, so we ended one day at the river to soak our feet in the super cold water. One other dad had found some clay and shared it with the girls. They (Tim included) had a good time playing with that.

Kayla is in her first swim class. It’s an intensive 3 week class with a half hour lesson each morning. After a super hard first day of screaming, Kayla has since really enjoyed the class and gets excited to go every morning. The lessons are done well getting the kids used to having their ears, for instance, in the water (by listening for the clicker fish). Kayla has actually had her face dunked in the water and not come up crying lately. Way to go little swimmer.

Kitty.

Our kitty is an amazing tree climber. Climbed really high this day. Wasn’t so sure she’d make it back down. But, it was no problem for Flash.
