Aloha

28 September 2008

What a great week we had in Hawaii. The weather was perfect, nice and hot with a bit of rain and cooling down at night. We went to the beach quite a lot, tasted lots of new kinds of fruit and did a neat walk or two.

There was lots of digging in the sand to do, and Julia finally came around to enjoying the sand and water. Kayla didn’t want to get into the water so much, but still really enjoyed the beach.

We of course spent one afternoon at the Hilton walking around the resort. We chose the hottest part of the day for some reason, but still managed to have fun, especially the kids. We walked under the waterfall, saw the dolphins including a baby, saw the flamingos, rode the boat and the train, and of course enjoyed a yummy hawaiian cocktail.

Both girls really enjoyed their cousin, grandma and auntie. Here are the three kids sporting their new t-shirts they got at the Waimea market. Kayla really had fun with Zayden and even got to go to school with him one day.

Kayla was really in heaven getting to be barefoot most of the time and wearing summer clothes everyday. This is her doing a happy fruit popsicle dance at the market. Kayla was so sad to leave Hawaii and the first day home she told me how boring it is at home and how she’d like to go back.

first day of school

Our little Kayla is now officially a “Scallywag”. She had her first two days of preschool. The first day was pretty rough. She joined two other kids in lots of crying. I stayed for most of the day. The second day went much better. The second day two of the other little girls did the crying (though one poor little soul cried hard both days the whole time her dad was gone). Most of the parents stayed for the first half of the school day when the kids go to the park. They sure looked cute in their rain bibs. Kayla made good use out of them right away by wading in the creek. At the end of the second day she said “I didn’t cry and I was alright”. She said she had lots of fun both days despite the sadness on the first.

This weekend there was a festival at the local community center. We biked down bright and early and caught the first act, Nancy Stewart. In one of her songs she instructed the kids to “put the egg on your knee” and you can see Julia played along. By the time the third act was on there were lots of people and kids dancing.

A local gymnastics place set up a little sample course, and both girls loved it. They went around again and again. It was a really nice relaxing morning on a lovely September sunny day.

O & O

Poppa and Moma came to visit us. Since the weather was cold and yucky, we all went to the Science center and played in the Speedway exhibit. We got to play outside with the water toys too.

Both girls wanted to try out all the games too and it was hard to say who had more fun, the grandparents or the grandkids. I was able to take on my mom on a ski race simulator.

For labor day we went to the locks and the fish ladder and saw some amazing fish jumping out of the water action. There weren’t too many fish in the ladder windows as it was low tide, but the girls had fun doing acrobatics. There is one big fish in the window behind Kayla.
