5 years

24 August 2008

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary at our friend Jays cabin in the Olympic Peninsula. It was a nice weekend away despite the girls being super whiny and cranky on Sunday morning after a lack of sufficient sleep. We went for a nice walk in the woods saturday morning during which we found plenty of huckleberries to keep the girls interested. Kayla nickamed tim “huckleberry huck” and said that every time she wanted a berry.

On Saturday I snuck aboard the boat while K, J and T were sleeping, and got to try out my (very minimal) waterskiing ability. Kayla and Tim got to board the boat later on for a tour of the lake. It was a beautiful sunny day for our anniversary and a nice cabin rain on Sunday.

childrens museum fun

19 August 2008

It was little Theo’s 1st birthday today, so our Tuesday crew headed to the children’s museum at Seattle Center. Kai, Kayla and Julia worked hard in the grocery store.

After the store the girls let Haiden take them for a ride on the bus. We finished the morning with cupcakes by the fountain.

belfair state park

17 August 2008

We boarded the Bremerton ferry again to head to Belfair state park for camping. It was full moon which was very pretty, and made for super low tides. Lots of people went digging for clams and oysters in the morning. It was very crowded, close together campsites, smoky and noisy, but I think the girls, at least, had a great time.

We decided to go for a “hike” during the hottest part of the high 90 degree day and didn’t make it much further than this little boardwalk. We headed back to the beach and all took a swim. The hot sun warmed up the rocks on the beach so when the tide came back in the water was really warm. A rarity for puget sound, and it made for a very fun swim, or “kick” as the girls did.

After the trek home, the girls celebrated by “rocking out” on their guitars.

August fun

14 August 2008

We’ve been doing lots of fun things this summer, but I often forget the camera or the photos are just not turning out. I’ll post a few anyhow… We’ve been hitting a few beaches this summer. Both girls are enjoying the sand, and Julia finally doesn’t seem to mind sitting right in it and digging too.

A few other moms and I braved the rush hour traffic to attend a concert in Kirkland. I think the kids had the most fun eating popsicles and playing in the fountain afterwards. Tim was able to meet us in the park for lunch after the concert.

Since the girls were so good at picking the raspberries at the farm, I enlisted their help for blackberry picking. A bit more dangerous I realize (what with the prickers) but I think I was the only one that got scratched.

A few of us seemed to really enjoy the blackberry crisp I made as well…

1 and a half

8 August 2008

Julia had her 18 month check up recently. Good enough reason for an update I thought. She continues to be more fun adding more words every day. She is very friendly and says “hi” to everyone, sometimes enough to drive Kayla crazy who answers “I am saying hi”. Julia enjoys singing, and one of my favorite moments everyday are when I get to sing “row row row your boat” with her. If I’m lucky I get good snuggles in bed in the morning too. Julia is a very cuddly girl. She enjoys other kids and having “friends” and will sometimes wake up saying our neighbors childrens names “holt” and “cabe”. She still follows along behind the older kids and wants to practice the stairs all the time (with a hand of course). She loves the kitty and gets so excited she usually scares the cat away much to her dismay. Her love for her sister is still amazingly strong. She is entering that phase of wanted to do things herself, though her wants outweigh her skill most of the time. We love you Julia!

little farm hands

1 August 2008

On Friday we met up with Rachel, Aiden and Ember at the South 47 Farm. The kids got to be part of the farm tots program. They made caterpillar pictures, dug in the worm compost looking for worms and worm eggs, took a hayride, and then picked some raspberries.

I think Julia heard it wrong and took to “licking” the raspberries. It was cute. I think she ate all the ones she picked and only one or two made it in her carton. Aiden and Kayla did great and all really had more fun than I expected. The only one who didn’t get enough of the yummy berries was me. Hmmm, next time I’d better pick my own.
