The wedding

25 July 2008

We went down to Portland for the wedding of Jennifer and Kelly. It was a beautiful spot overlooking the gorge and a nice sunny warm day.

Kayla took a moment to pose in order to get a glimpse of the view on photo. It was a very stunning view, and really transformed at night when all the lights started glowing in the distance.

Since Julia didn’t get a nap in, she started losing it right around wedding time. The part of the ceremony I saw was lovely (before I walked away with the screaming child). Before that moment however, Julia found her daddy’s leg, and took a minute to stand up front with him and the other groomsmen.

The girls seemed to really have fun and enjoyed seeing the family again. Aunt Susie and Seth treated Tim and I to some time for a date on Saturday and we were able to enjoy a bit of Portland. It was a fun weekend.

Denny creek camping

6 July 2008

Who would have thought that camping in July could feel like December camping? It was a cold wet weekend. The rain started Friday night when we were sleeping and dumped most of the time, until sometime Sunday morning. I attempted to bring the pavillion for some rain protection, but somehow the tent part wasn’t packed in the box. So, we made do with the little tarp we keep in the car. It couldn’t handle the heavy rain, so we moved it by the fire pit where a big tree, along with the tarp, helped to keep us dry.

The girls didn’t seem to mind the weather at all. If Kayla had her way she would have been without coat the whole time. Sleeping went a bit better this time. Couldn’t resist snapping this photo before I drifted off to sleep…

We managed a couple short hikes each day. The first was to Franklin Falls. The river and falls were running pretty fast. It was really pretty. All around there were still patches of snow! Hard to believe for July.
