Tim headed off to Eindhoven, so Kayla and I packed up and went to the Big Island to visit Vicky, Lila and Zayden. All was going well with the flight there, we got to Maui on time, loaded the plane all set for take off when the captain came on to tell us that the hydraulic fluid was leaking and we would be on the plane until it was fixed. Well, after the layover at Maui (we couldn’t get off the plane for that) andwith our delay, we were only on the plane about 11.5 hours total. We could have flown further than Tim did. Kayla almost lost it as she was soooo tired, but I managed to coax her to sleep. Phew.
Hawaii was great. It was warm, sunny, a little rainy and of course, there was the family to visit. Kayla got was pretty sick for most of the time, but she was such a trooper. She managed a few smiles and really tried to be herself. She had a few smiles for the swing.
Kayla really seemed to enjoy her cousin Zayden. She followed him and seemed to want his attention as well. Kayla also enjoyed her grandmother and seemed to like her auntie Lila better than her mother much of the time. :-)
Zayden is really growing. He was talking up a storm and though I needed a translation here or there, he is getting pretty good at talking. We went to the beach one day, and though Kayla slept, we enjoyed watching Zayden play in the water.
Kayla managed some more developing despite being sick. She began pulling herself up on the furniture to stand. She was getting pretty good at it and really looks tall when she does. She was up on her feet and hands in the crab position quite a bit, liked to open and close the doors to get to the doorstop, and also began pointing at things. Kayla started using some more signs too. She said book, and something that looked like “hey, what’s going on?” It was kind of like a wider book with shrugged shoulders and hands open. She is sooo cute when she signs and it amazes me that at nine months old she can communicate so well.
Vicky, Zayden and I went to the outrigger for some lunch and a swim in the pool on our last day. Kayla was feeling better but Zayden was now feeling sick. Poor little ones. It’s so sad to see them sick.
So, then it was time to take our short 5 hour 44 minute flight back to Seattle. The plane was delayed about 1.5 hours, and I ran into the woman that sat behind us on the flight there. She said, well, since this plane is flying direct (already coming from Maui) I guess that means that there won’t be any problems. Boy was she wrong. Again the plane was loaded and then we were told there was a maintainace problem. Turns out they needed another computer for the cockpit and we had to fly to Honolulu to get it. So, first they had to de-gas the plane as the amount of fuel they had made the plane too heavy. Well that only took about 2 hours or so. Anyhow, after leaving Honolulu, we got to Seattle roughly 4.5 hours later than intended. Northwest Airlines. Hmmmm….
