on the go

16 January 2006

I declared that yesterday was Kayla’s official crawling day. She has been working on it for a while and over the last week she would take one or two crawling steps but then plop back down on her belly. Today in the ski lodge she ventured a bit further. Tonight she was really using it to just move around here and there for the first time. She is still a pretty slow mover but I’m sure that will change in no time. And guess what she went after right away… yup, the cat and the electrical outlets. Go figure.
Kayla also really enjoys when we hold out our hands and she can pull herself up to standing. She then likes to walk a bit. She’s getting quite good at that.

We went snowboarding on Sunday with Rad and Beth who had two youngsters to look after. It was a pretty fun day. I was just glad we got out riding again as there had been so much rain. Kayla and I started a signing class at the zoo. We so far have learned signs for the farm animals which I have been practicing while reading Kayla any books with farm animals. She has really been using the signs for “more, milk and all done” quite a lot lately. She even through in “to eat”. At the grocery store today, she signed more to a lady who had been flirting with Kayla. What a cutie. The one sock on, one sock off that you see in the photo is a Kayla signature.

Our little diva

Today I had Kayla with me at the grocery store and parked the cart (with her in it) near one of the store workers who happened to engage with Kayla. Kayla loved it, she giggled, and waved and bounced up and down in her seat dancing to her own rythm. When the woman looked away Kayla managed a slight squeak to get her attention again and again and again. After we moved away from that woman, Kayla then took it upon herself to wave at and/or clap at everyone that we passed. It was the cutest thing ever. At the check out stand Kayla had at least 5 people going as she waved to each. She was the big hit of the store. How could anyone not fall in love with her at times like this?

Cheers to the New Year

Happy New Year! 2006. Wow. Our first day of the year was really pretty good so far. We went snowshoeing (after everyone bailed on snowboarding) up to the Source Lake area. We bundled up Kayla pretty well and mostly tromped around in the snow. Kayla slept for the first hour and seemed to enjoy the end of the hike when it started snowing. She still keeps us smiling with her cute noises.

For new years eve, we went to Rad and Beth’s for their children and chili party. There were quite a number of babies and toddlers present. Kayla had fun playing with some of her friends. As Kayla was still on east coast time we left rather early to get her home to bed.

Kayla is now fully scooting around the house doing a booty scoot. The excited bouncing off the floor doesn’t work so well for her on our hardwoods. They are a little more slick than carpet. She can also pull herself up to standing when I hold my hands out for her to pull herself up. She adds a new sound most everyday and keeps us amused.
